THE SHELF 2.0 - ReIMAGINED
I’m excited to share with you the transformation of my trusty old Shelf 1.0 into the brand new and improved Shelf 2.0!
For four years, Shelf 1.0 had been a reliable corner storage solution in my small Brooklyn apartment. But as all good things must come to an end, it was time for me to move to another, slightly bigger Brooklyn apartment. With a new location came a new purpose for the shelf and a new set of challenges to overcome.
After disassembling Shelf 1.0, I brought it to my new space and got to work on the new design. No longer needed as a corner storage solution, Shelf 1.0 was reborn as an entertainment center, now known as Shelf 2.0!
To begin, I used the existing pipes and fittings to construct two pillars that would support the structure. Next, I sourced a new butcher block and ripped it in half to create the two main shelves. I drilled holes in the surface of the block to pass the pipes through, locking the pillars in place vertically and providing much-needed structural support.
I continued the pipe structure up two courses and then added the second shelf. Finally, I added a few smaller boards on both sides for display and storage. The result is a stunning focal point in my new space that not only meets my current needs but also elevates the overall design aesthetic.
I’m thrilled with the transformation of my beloved Shelf 1.0 into the new and improved Shelf 2.0. It’s a testament to the power of creative problem-solving and the importance of repurposing old items to meet new needs.
